Lockwood Ecosystem Restoration Area
Project Location: Lower Truckee River, east of Reno/Sparks
Project Overview: This project seeks to restore 

approximately 0.6 river miles at Lockwood, located along

the Lower Truckee River and currently owned by Washoe

County.  The project includes construction of new river

meanders, instream riffles, and wetland areas.  Following

earth-moving activities, about 30 acres will be

revegetated with native riparian and upland plants.

 

Timeline:  

January 2008 - July 2008: Finalized design and secured

grant funding and permits; advertised and awarded

primary supply and service contracts

 

August 2008 - December 2008:  Project construction period-

prepare site, stockpile rock, salvage plant materials,

excavate meander and wetlands, construct riffles, fill

abandoned channel

 

December 2008 - March 2009:  Weed control and

revegetation, construction of trailhead amenities 

 

April 2009 - September 2011:  Continued weed control

and revegetation, followed by project stewardship

(monitoring and maintenance)

 

Total Cost: $3.8 Million approximately 

Truckee River Flood Project contribution

(1/8-cent sales taxes used to purchase Monday property

& demolish structures/prep for construction) = $392,000
