 Lower Mustang Ranch Ecosystem Restoration Area

 

Project Location:  Lower Truckee River, east of

Reno/Sparks

 

Project Overview:  This project seeks to restore

approximately 2.5 river miles of the Lower Mustang

Ranch, located along the Lower Truckee River and

currently managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land

Management.  The project includes construction of

new river meanders, instream riffles, and wetland

areas.  Following earth-moving activities, about

176 acres will be revegetated with native riparian

and upland plants

 

Timeline:   

January 2009 - July 2009:  Finalized design and

secured grant funding and permits; advertised and

awarded primary supply and service contracts

 

August 2009 - December 2009:  Project construction

period: prepare site, stockpile rock, salvage plant

materials, excavate meander and wetlands, construct

riffles, fill abandoned channel

 

December 2009 - March 2010:  Weed control and

revegetation

 

April 2010 - September 2012:  Continued weed control

and revegetation, followed by project stewardship

(monitoring and maintenance)

 

Total Cost:  $7.8 Million

 

Truckee River Flood Project contribution (AB-5 grant

funds) = $1.675 Million
