SHAUN CAREY, Sparks City Manager

Shaun Carey earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in December 1981. Since then he has worked as a civil engineer in Arizona; a traffic engineer in Boulder County, Colorado and Marysville, California. He is a licensed engineer in Nevada, California and Colorado. In 1992 Carey moved back to Sparks as the public works director and by 1999 he was named assistant city manager. Mr. Carey was promoted to city manager in January 2000. Mr. Carey is a member of the International City/County Management Association, and is a former member and first chairman of the Regional Water Planning Commission.

Dean Schultz, A.A.E. is the Director of Planning and Environmental Services with the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. Mr. Schultz received a Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1984.  In 1998 Mr. Schultz joined the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. As the Director of Planning and Environmental Services for the Authority, Mr. Schultz's recent projects include a Terminal Area Master Plan Update, FAR Part 150 Update, an Environmental Assessment for cargo expansion, an ATC Tower/TRACON relocation and land exchange with the Nevada Air National Guard.

WAYNE A. SEIDEL, City of Sparks Public Works Director

Wayne A. Seidel, P.E.  Since November of 2001, Wayne Seidel has served as the Public Works Director of Operations at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility.  In addition to winning State and National American Public Works Association project honors for his innovative leadership of the Effluent Irrigation Reuse Systems in The Sparks Marina Park, Seidel was also the first recipient of the "Rail City Service in Government Award" for his exemplary engineering and professional service during the Downtown Redevelopment Projects. Seidel, a member of the City of Sparks' management team since 1995, has degrees in architecture and civil engineering.

JOHN SHERMAN, Washoe County Finance Director

Mr. Sherman was appointed Washoe Finance Director in May 1999.  He previously had served as a management analyst for the County on fiscal matters since February 1989.  Mr. Sherman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Nevada-Reno.  He also is a Certified Public Accountant.

KATY SIMON, Washoe County Manager

Katy serves as the County Manager for Washoe County, second-largest county in Nevada.  As Chief Executive Officer of the County, she oversees multi-million dollar budget and 3,000 employees.  The county provides nationally recognized regional and urban services to a growing population of nearly 400,000 residents.  Katy is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of California, and holds a master's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. She serves on many non-profit and private boards both in the community and in her industry.
